Scenario Planning in Portfolio Forecaster is more than just a feature; it's a strategic advantage that helps organisations move from *reactive* to **proactive** planning, ensuring they stay ahead of uncertainty and thrive in an unpredictable world.

### Scenario Planning vs. Actual Forecast

Whenever your forecast is updated or generated, only the “real” or “actual” forecast is being saved because this forecast is based on what is *really* happening to your data (how many items are in progress, your throughput,…).

As soon as you activate the scenario planning mode, you enter the “what if” scenarios and take a step away from the reality of your process. Those forecasted scenarios are not 100% rooted in facts, which is why they do not get saved.

#### When should you use the scenario planning mode?

Each time you wish to forecast different outcomes based on parameters not reflected in your historical data (ie, throughput) or current process (WIP, priorities…).
